Estate Planning & Probate

Send me a Message! CONTACT FORM or Call 206.312.5274

My name is William Brewer. At Ravenna Estate Law, I assist individuals and families in all aspects of estate planning and probate. My aim is to give you the best attorney experience possible. To achieve this, I prioritize open communication and collaboration with my clients. I offer a free initial phone consultation (206.312.5274 to schedule) so you can make an informed decision when choosing an attorney to help you. You will work directly with me throughout the entire process, without being handed off to another lawyer or paralegal. My goal is to provide you with a positive and seamless experience.

ESTATE PLANNING

Yes, estate planning involves much more than just drafting a will. It is a process of planning for the management and distribution of your assets after you pass away, and can involve a variety of legal tools and strategies to accomplish your goals.

In addition to drafting a will, estate planning may involve setting up trusts to manage and distribute your assets, designating beneficiaries for your assets, and creating advance directives such as a living will or durable power of attorney to specify your wishes for medical treatment and financial decisions in the event that you become incapacitated.

Estate planning can also involve strategies to reduce the size of your estate if it will be taxed at your death, such as setting up a charitable trust or gifting assets to loved ones during your lifetime. It can also involve planning for the financial security of your spouse, children, and other family members, and selecting a guardian for your minor children.

Overall, the goal of estate planning is to help you make informed decisions about the management and distribution of your assets, and to ensure that your wishes are carried out in accordance with your goals and values.

ESTIMATES AND COSTS

It's important for me to provide clients with a clear understanding of the potential costs involved in estate planning and probate. Providing estimates at the end of the initial consultation is a good way to give clients an idea of what to expect and help them make informed decisions about their legal representation.

Estate planning involves creating a plan for the management and distribution of your assets after you pass away. This may include drafting a will, setting up trusts, and designating beneficiaries for your assets. The costs for estate planning can vary depending on the complexity of your estate and the amount of work involved in creating the plan. Flat fee arrangements can be a good option for clients who have a straightforward estate and want a predictable cost for their estate planning services.

Areas of Practice

Wills AND TRUSTs

A Will is a legal document allowing the person making the will designate individuals to receive your property and possessions after you pass away. The main purpose of a will is to make sure your wishes will be followed upon the testator's death. A will also allows you to name a guardian to care for any minor children, determine what you would like to do with your remains, and designate alternate beneficiaries should your original beneficiaries predecease you.

Health Care Power of Attorney

A Health Care Power of Attorney allows you to designate someone to represent and make decisions for you in the event you are unable to make or communicate decisions about all aspects of your health care. It also gives your representative guidance to make sure that your wishes are being fulfilled.

Probate

Probate is the legal process for transferring property when an owner dies. The probate process requires determining the heirs and beneficiaries, locating assets, paying any debts and taxes, and also distributing the proceeds to the beneficiaries. Ravenna Estate Law assists individuals and families in the probate process including filing all the necessary court documents to start and complete probate.

Financial Power of Attorney

A Financial Power of Attorney allows another individual manage your finances if you become incapacitated and are unable to make financial decisions yourself. The power is granted in a document and grants someone legal authority to act on your behalf regarding financial matters. It helps make life easier on your family and friends during a difficult time.
